USDA: Just 2 pct of Neb. corn remains unharvested

Corn_05LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Only a few fields of Nebraska corn still await their fall fate.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture said Monday that 98% of the state's corn crop has been harvested. The USDA says most of the remaining unharvested fields are in the Panhandle and southwest Nebraska.

Normally at this time of year, about 78% of the corn has been harvested. Last year, only 45% had been brought in by this date.

Winter wheat conditions are still below average. The USDA says only 45% of the winter wheat crop rated in good or excellent condition, which is well below the average of 69% by this date.

The USDA says the recent rain and snow brought sorely needed moisture to dry soil.
