Aklan rice supply to last 121 days- NFA

KALIBO, Aklan, Apr. 14 (PIA)--Aklanons need not fear any rice crisis – according to the National Food Authority (NFA) here, as the province has enough rice to last 121 days.

Presently, the province has a total of 515,982 bags of rice stored in households, in warehouses of commercial rice traders and retailers, and the NFA warehouse, according to NFA Provincial Manager Marianito Bejemino in a radio interview recently.

Bejemino said this supply will still increase as harvesting is still on-going in various parts of Aklan.

As the rice supply is seen to last for four months, Bejemino said that by that time, there will be another batch of rice harvesting in the province.

“We have no problem with our rice supply. We are a rice surplus province, we have enough rice until the next cropping,” Bejemino assured Aklanons.

Bejemino also told Aklanons not to panic and hoard rice, but to buy just what they need.

He also called on commercial traders and businessmen not to take advantage of the wrong information regarding rice supply.

“Let us cooperate and help each other,” Bejemino said.

He also assured that NFA rice is available and accessible to buyers in market outlets and at Bigasan sa Barangay (BBO) at P27.00 per kilogram.

The I-Rice (rice fortified with iron) however, launched last month by the NFA, could be bought for P28.00 per kilo.
