TALKS between the Fiji Sugar Corporation and United Kingdom sugar buyers Tate and Lyle are continuing over sugar prices.
FSC executive chairman Abdul Khan said negotiations were in progress on fetching the best possible price for Fiji sugar.
"My stand on the issue has not changed. Negotiations on how much we sell our sugar to Tate and Lyle are continuing," Mr Khan said.
"The FSC wants the best possible price for the benefit of our industry, especially the farmers.
"If Tate and Lyle are not able to give us the best price, then we will look at other markets like Japan and Korea who are very interested in Fiji sugar." Mr Khan said the outcome of the talks should be reached in the next few weeks.
Global demand for sugar has risen over the past few years and along with that shift, prices have also risen substantially.
A prolonged dry spell in Brazil, the world's largest sugar producer, and flooding in Australia's cane belt has severely affected global supply forcing an upward spike in the world's raw sugar price.
