Rice procurement falls marginally in 2010-11 mkt yr

New Delhi, Apr 6 (PTI) Rice procurement stood at 25.35 million tonnes in 2010-11 marketing year so far, marginally lower than 25.53 million tonnes of purchase in the same period last year.

The rice marketing year runs from October to September.

According to the FCI data, rice procurement in Punjab declined to 8.63 million tonnes against 9.28 million tonnes in the corresponding period of previous year.

Similarly, the procurement in Haryana fell to 1.65 million tonnes from 1.81 million tonnes in the review period.

However, government agencies were able to buy more rice in Chattisgarh at 3.49 million tonnes against 3.03 million tonnes in the year-ago period.

Similarly, in Andhra Pradesh, rice procurement rose to 4.19 million tonnes this year so far against 3.84 million tonnes in the year-ago period.
