Forexpros - The U.S. dollar was steady to lower against its major counterparts on Monday, as investors remained focused on developments in the euro zone, amid ongoing fears over the worsening of the region’s financial crisis.
During European morning trade, the dollar was lower against the euro, with EUR/USD adding 0.14% to 1.2528.
Industry data showed earlier that German business confidence in July deteriorated to the lowest level since June 2010.

Analysts had expected the index to ease down by 0.6 points to 102.6 in August.
Meanwhile, investors remained cautious after German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Friday rejected Greece’s request to extend the timeframe given to implement its economic reform program.
Following talks with Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, Merkel said it was up to Greece to show that it could implement the austerity measures agreed with its international creditors, but reiterated that the country should stay in the euro zone.
Market participants were also anticipating a speech by senior European Central Bank policymaker Joerg Asmussen later in the day.
