KARNAL, APRIL 25:
Following good demand, arrival of desi wheat from Madhya Pradesh has increased. Around 200 tonnes of different varieties of desi wheat arrived on Monday.
Fresh buying lifted the prices of all desi wheat varieties. Tohfa variety rose by Rs 80 and ruled at Rs 2,250 a quintal, Bhojan King was quoted at Rs 2,200, Dabang at Rs 2,000, Namastey India at Rs 2,000, Kamal Brand at Rs 2,050 while the Nokia variety traded at 2,050 a quintal.
Around 15,000 quintals of dara variety, new wheat, arrived at the Karnal grain market terminal. Arrivals from Uttar Pradesh also started as around 200 tonnes of dara variety arrived.
Arrivals of dara variety are still sluggish, last year, by April 25, almost the complete produce was in the market but this year just 30-35 per cent produce had arrived, said Mr Sewa Ram, a wheat trader.
Prices of old dara witnessed a good rally and rose by Rs 50-55 a quintal, Mill delivery of old wheat was at Rs 1,210-1,215 a quintal against Rs 1,150-1,160 a quintal quoted last weekend, while it traded at Rs 1,225 in the retail market.
FLOUR PRICES
With some buying flour prices rose by Rs 20 and ruled around Rs 1,200 for a 90-kg bag. Branded flour such as Om Bhog and Lal Quila were quoted at Rs 140 and 145 for a 10-kg bag, respectively. Chokar prices increased by Rs 10 and it was quoted at Rs 570 for a 49-kg bag.
PROCUREMENT IN PUNJAB
Government agencies and private millers procured more than 47.17 lakh tonnes of wheat till Sunday.
